Description
Our Student Winemakers: Jean Atkins, Skip Watson, Eric Ash, and Rob Wohr, are determined to make Tempranillo grape variety, knowing that the 2019 vintage was the last year to harvest at Myles Anderson Vineyard. Tempranillo is a Spanish red grape that grows mainly in Rioja and Ribera del Duero. Tempranillo grape is an early grape variety, and it is resistant to high levels of heat but not too resistant to freezing temperatures. Therefore, the vines weren't flourishing for being planted in 2020. We are happy to bring joy to our last vintage for making wine with Tempranillo grape.

Wine Profile
Food Pairing Notes:
The tempranillo wine is delightful and easy to pair with European food or any other food, where the fresh spices enhance the savory notes of this wine. Pair this wine with tomato base food, such as soup, rice, lasagnas, and herbal flavors. Paella and Tempranillo is the most famous pairing but either tapas with Jamon Iberico, salami, Jamón Serrano, and Manchego cheese!
Production Notes:
Our students carefully picked our grapes on September 10 in 2019; this was the third Tempranillo produced at the College Cellar. The grapes were gently crushed and destemmed before fermentation. The Tempranillo wine was fermented in a neutral American Puncheon and in a new Hungarian Puncheon ( 500 L barrel) to keep the characteristics of this delicate and velvety texture with some floral aromas in the mid-palate.
Tasting Notes:
Tempranillo is multi-dimensional, the primary flavours, known as the flavours of the grape variety in it's "own", emanate aromas of fresh raspberry, juicy red cherries, cherry tomato and hints of secondary flavours that comes from the winemaker intervention adding American traditional barrels that add affix coconut, vanilla, white peppery notes to this wine. If you decide to age this Tempranillo, expect notes of tertiary flavours as dried roses, potpourri and dry meat.
Vintage Notes:
Summer temperatures were considerably cooler for this grape, with a few heat changes. Overall, temperatures across the growing season were slightly above 20-year averages but were nowhere near as warm as the years that preceded it.
