Wine Profile

Production Notes:

The 2019 season was characterized by heavy rainfall and a cold winter. Several atmospheric rivers brought storms with up to 6" of rain at times and a polar vortex decended from the north and touched us here in the Sierras producing quite a few days of snow at our 2000 ft altitude. The heavy rain continued through May making for a crazy start to the growing season. Bud break was a month later than usual but a warm summer quickly allowed the grapes to catch up and made for a normal harvest date. We sourced our Muscat Canelli grapes from a neighboring high altutude vineyard, our good friends Harvey and Nancy Linebarier who introduced us to this wine region and grow 17 year old vines on 10 acres of their property with sweeping Sierra vistas and a creek that was mined for gold. It was on a cool Thanksgiving evening, sitting on their porch with a glass of Linebarier estate wine in hand, fire crackling, watching the sunset over that spectacular view, that planted the seed to one day find a place like that for ourselves! We worked closely with Harvey to pick at a perfect time, regularly tasting the grapes in the field. We harvested on September 12 at a lighter brix of 22.9 and a pH of 3.3. We whole cluster pressed the grapes, crash chilled to settle out solids and then cold fermented over 21 days. To preserve the fresh, aromatic character of the fruit, the wine did not undergo malolactic fermentation, nor did it come in contact with oak. The result is a dry Muscat with bright acidity. As a result, you are tasting the pure varietal of the terroir perched on Harvey's scenic hillside. It has a delicately effervescent characteristic as a result of the fermentation, perfect as a chilled aperitif wine. Aromas of peach, mangos and grapefruit. Tasting notes of honeysuckle with a crisp, dry finish. This wine is perfect as an aperitif but also pairs very well pver lunch or dinner of Asian cuisine with a hint of spice, fresh salads, light fish or pasta with seafood.

Vintage Notes:

Our Muscat Canelli grapes are sourced from neighboring Linebarier Vineyards in El Dorado County. Perched above a canyon facing west, this high altutude vineyard at 2100 feet elevation benefits from cool evening canyon breezes and ample daytime sunshine. The grapes are dry farmed on granitic and mineral soil, and mature to a well balanced sugar/acidity with exceptional flavor and aromas. We were fortunate Harvey could carve some out for us this season so we could make a limited batch of 27 cases.
